Ravenclaw by Ugrik Ravenclaw by Ugrik
Thanx to Leeran here in deviantart for inspiration i have managed to finish another knife. I must say that it took twice as long as usual because i couldnt stop admiring it during the work process :D.

Overall length is 35cm and blade length 20 cm. Blade width is 5,5 mm. Fittings are casted from bronze - eyes on the fitting are made from silver. Handle is polished ebony. Blade itself is made black using same thing thats used to darken guns and rifles and there is snake pattern on the back of the blade. Razorsharp :)

They are great pieces, but I have a question: does the engraving and carving affect in any way the toughness of the blade?

Definitely. Its important to leave enough material to keep the blade strong - not really a problem with such a big knife with 5.5mm back thickness. Hardening and heattreating them properly is also important.

Now that's a beaut. The pommel is rather large though, I would consider smashing skulls with it, if you wanted to actually fight with the dagger.

Nice looking blade. A piece of art but with the appearance for functionality in battle. I always prefer a Tanto blade and this is a great deviation of it. Blade would look good in a well lighted glass case. What type steel was used for the blade?
