12.cent Cross-shaped pendant

12. Century cross shaped pendant from Estonia. Such pendants were fairly common part in women necklaces. Since they predate christianity and crusades to our lands it is thought that such pendants carried warding powers that protected against evil and magic.
Ofcource - extreemly little is known for sure because cristianity did a very good job in rooting out native beliefs. Maybe they were worn just becuse they are shiny and you could show at village party how wealthy you were and how much metal you could afford.
